Vermont Innovation Commons serves as launchpad for new, existing entrepreneurs

Vermont Innovation Commons is a movement building organization focused on advancing the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Vermont with the ultimate goal of creating more living-wage jobs. Their overarching mission is to be a launching pad for new and existing entrepreneurs, creating a radically inclusive business environment throughout Vermont. With a statewide presence, The Commons spearheads projects that capture the benefits of the sharing economy, the state’s entrepreneurial DNA, and Vermont’s natural assets. Working in tandem with the business community here and beyond, they are working to create a future that maintains Vermont’s cultural roots while building a thriving future full of opportunities for everyone.

As they work towards a physical space in Burlington, Vermont Innovation Commons has partnered with the College of St. Joseph (CSJ) in Rutland to help reimagine the campus and test their theory of bringing coworking and coliving spaces together, ultimately amplifying connectivity. Though CSJ is no longer an accredited college, the entire staff is committed to fostering economic development in the Rutland area and continuing to provide community and educational services. Through a feasibility study with CSJ and Vermont Works Management, The Commons will create a strategic plan to repurpose the campus and develop programming appropriate for a 21st century workforce and economy.

Back in Burlington, Vermont Innovation Commons will host their keystone event on September 25-26, 2019: the 3rd Annual Vermont Investors Summit. Created in 2017, The Summit is described as a showcase of local entrepreneurs and businesses, providing greater visibility to investors within the state and beyond. The Summit has evolved into a two day event featuring a breadth of content around community building and collaboration. Day 1 (September 25) will feature Deborah Jackson of Plum Alley Investments and Andy Stoll of the Kauffman Foundation. Both will speak to the importance of fostering community and empowering entrepreneurs. On Day 2 (September 26), Vermont Innovation Commons will host Company Speed Dating for ten Vermont companies actively raising capital, connecting them with high-quality mentors and investors. The Summit will culminate in the evening soiree, hosted at the Sailing Center, featuring good food, drinks and conversation! The speakers are ticketed events ($20 per session) and the evening event is free but an RSVP is strongly encouraged.
