Diaper Drive

April 7, 2021 @ 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Free

I am running a contactless Diaper Drive in our neighborhood, April 07, 2021 from 3pm-7pm. At the Winooski Armory Parking Lot, 255 Lafountain St. Winooski.

The Junior League of Champlain Valley started the Diaper Bank in 2018, after seeing a need in the community. It costs $75 per month, on average, to provide diapers for one child, and approximately one in three families struggle to afford them. Currently, no state or federal programming allocates dollars specifically for diapers, and some actually prevent spending money on them. The Diaper Bank helps fill that gap, partnering with local food shelves to provide diapers for distribution.

Since COVID hit in March 2020, the Diaper Bank has distributed over 450,000 diapers, free of cost, to families in need.

How can you help?
Pick up any size diapers from your local grocery store OR bring any diapers that your child has grown out of in a bag to the Winooski Armory parking lot We will have a few drop boxes set up labeled DIAPER DRIVE for you to place the items in.

If you can’t make it during the time we will be set up, don’t worry. I will leave a box in the front of the armory, as well as one in the back for you to drop off diapers after we leave. I will retrieve them later.

#DIAPERNEEDFACTS

* Without diapers, babies cannot attend daycare or participate in early childhood education programs.
* Without childcare, mothers cannot go to school or work to further their education and provide for their families.
* Infants require up to ten diapers per day, and toddlers need about six.
* Disposable diapers cost up to $75 per month per baby.
* Despite being a basic hygiene need, diapers are not covered by Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP – formerly “food stamps”) or the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC).
* Over 30% of women with children in diapers can’t afford an adequate supply, forcing many families to make one or two diapers last the whole day.
* Lack of diapers has a profound and complex impact on families, including health risks like rashes and urinary tract infections for children and emotional challenges such as stress, anxiety, and depression for parents and children.
* Diapers are necessary for children entering daycare. Without a reliable supply of diapers, parents cannot enroll their child and, therefore, cannot take a job or attend school.
