2026 Chittenden County State’s Attorney Primary Election Forum – Virtual
June 24 @ 12:00 pm - 1:15 pm
Join six regional organizations to hear directly from incumbent Chittenden County State’s Attorney Sarah George (D) and challenger Franklin County State’s Attorney Bram Kranichfeld (D) as they discuss their distinct visions for accountability, diversion structures, victim support, and the future of justice in Chittenden County.
Public safety, retail theft, accountability, and the quality of life in our commercial centers remain the most critical challenges facing Northwest Vermont’s business owners, workers, and residents. The decisions made by the Chittenden County State’s Attorney profoundly shape our local justice system, the enforcement of laws, and the economic vitality of our region.
The primary election is August 11th, and the winner of that election will likely face no opponent in the November general election, making the August primary potentially the only opportunity Chittenden County voters have to decide who will serve them as State’s Attorney for the next four years.
Important things to know about Vermont primary elections:
- Importance of Primaries: For many Vermont elected positions, the only election the officeholder faces is the often-overlooked or forgotten primary election.
- Primary Flexibility: Vermont utilizes an open primary system. Voters are not required to register with a party; you can choose either party’s ballot privately at the polls on August 11th.
- The 45-Day Early Voting Window: Early and absentee ballots are available 45 days before the primary election.
- Election Resources: Get more election resources via the Vermont Secretary of State’s website.
About the hosts: This forum is just one part of the work being done in partnership by six trade associations, which will provide educational opportunities and conduct Get Out the Vote activities to engage the employer community during the 2026 election season.
