Lake Champlain Chamber Opens Applications for Leadership Champlain Class of 2027

BURLINGTON, Vt. (March 5, 2026) – The Lake Champlain Chamber is now accepting applications for the Class of 2027 of Leadership Champlain, its flagship leadership development program.

Since 1988, Leadership Champlain has graduated more than 1,200 professionals who now serve in executive roles, on nonprofit boards, in municipal leadership, and across key industries that power the regional economy.

As workforce shortages, demographic shifts, and housing pressures reshape Vermont’s economic landscape, the program plays an increasingly important role in preparing leaders who understand both their organizations and the broader systems that influence them.

“Workforce development is not just about filling jobs. It’s about building leadership capacity that strengthens our businesses, nonprofits, and communities over the long term,” said Alex Bunten, director of workforce and education at the Lake Champlain Chamber. “Leadership Champlain equips participants with a deeper understanding of the economic, social, and civic dynamics shaping our region. That perspective makes them more effective employers, managers, and community partners.”

From September through June, the 36-member cohort participates in immersive retreats, full-day seminars on critical regional issues, site visits, service projects, and facilitated discussions with leaders from various sectors. Participants explore topics such as economic development, education, healthcare, and public policy, while building cross-industry relationships that often extend well beyond the program year.

“Strong regions are built by leaders who collaborate across sectors,” said Cathy Davis, president and CEO of the Lake Champlain Chamber. “Leadership Champlain intentionally brings together professionals from business, government, education, and nonprofit organizations to foster trust, shared understanding, and a commitment to Vermont’s long term vitality.”

Ideal candidates demonstrate leadership experience or strong leadership potential, a commitment to community engagement, and a desire to contribute to the region’s economic resilience and quality of life.

Tuition for the 2026 to 2027 program is $2,700 for Chamber members and $3,400 for non-members. Limited need-based tuition assistance is available.

Applications are due April 21, 2026.
