The Lake Champlain Chamber successfully hosted its 114th Annual Gala on Thursday, April 10 at Hula, bringing together over 250 business leaders and community members to celebrate the outstanding achievements of local businesses, organizations, and individuals. The evening was a resounding success, highlighting the vital contributions that drive Northwest Vermont’s thriving economy forward.
The Gala recognized the following distinguished award recipients:
Business of the Year: Waitsfield & Champlain Valley Telecom (WCVT) – WCVT was honored for its exceptional business success, unwavering commitment to community connectivity, and substantial contributions to regional economic development. Their dedication to providing reliable high-speed internet, especially in rural areas, has been instrumental in supporting businesses and residents across the region. Their constant focus on customer service and community support sets them apart. “We are truly honored to be recognized as the Lake Champlain Chamber’s Business of the Year. As a local, fourth-generation, family-owned Vermont company, this award is a testament to the dedication of our incredible employees, the loyalty of our customers, and the support of the communities we proudly serve,” said President and CEO Eric Haskin.
Non-Profit of the Year: The Flynn – The Flynn was celebrated for its profound and enduring impact on the region’s cultural landscape. As a cornerstone of the arts community, The Flynn is dedicated to offering high-quality performing arts experiences to Vermonters. Throughout the year, the Flynn hosts a diverse array of international, national, and regional artists, presenting performances that inspire and create transformative moments for audiences of all ages. In addition to stage performances, the Flynn fosters accessibility to the arts through a variety of programs, including classes, camps, artist residencies, community performances outside the theater, and the annual Burlington Discover Jazz Festival. The Flynn is committed to making the arts accessible to all. “Our team dedicates itself every day to support broad statewide access to the performing arts – reaching more than one in four Vermonters through our work,” stated Executive Director Jay Wahl. “This award encourages us to continue the heartfelt work that we do, and we look forward to bringing the arts to even more Vermonters every year.”
New Business of the Year: Hootie Hoo – Hootie Hoo, a woman-owned brand offering top-tier technical apparel for children, received accolades for its remarkable growth, job creation, and innovative approach. Hootie Hoo firmly believes that many lifelong habits and valuable lessons are cultivated through outdoor experiences, and their passion lies in creating high-quality gear designed to empower children and families to “Outplay The Elements.” “We are thrilled to be selected as the New Business of the Year by Lake Champlain Chamber! A huge thank you to our customers, partners, and community for supporting our journey—we couldn’t have done it without you!” said CEO and Co-Founder Claire Zhu.
Emerging Leader Award: Sophie Owen Jankowski – Sophie Owen Jankowski was recognized for her exceptional professional achievements and outstanding community leadership. Over the past several years, she’s developed her leadership skills and technical expertise in property management, supported by opportunities like Leadership Champlain and industry conferences. Sophie also chairs the Burlington Young Professionals Advisory Board where she recently helped launch BYP Reads, a professional development book club. Her passion, vision, and collaborative spirit mark her as a rising star and a vital asset to the community. “Leadership is not about being in charge; it’s about empowering others to succeed,” said Owen Jankowski. “I am truly honored to receive this award, which reflects the unwavering support, trust, and dedication of the people who have shaped my journey.”
