SUMMARY:COTS Walk
DESCRIPTION:Founded in 1988\, the COTS Walk is one of our oldest and most important peer-to-peer fundraisers. Every year walkers of all ages from businesses\, schools\, religious organizations\, and neighborhoods come together from all over the region to participate. The Walk begins and ends in Battery Park with music from Jenni & the Jazz Junketeers\, Ben & Jerry’s ice cream\, and fun activities. \nThis family-friendly event guides Walkers along a 3.6-mile route through downtown Burlington visiting some of the shelters and facilities that COTS operates. At this event\, COTS seeks to illustrate the path a person experiencing homelessness might take when utilizing COTS services to educate our community about homelessness in our region. Bring your friends\, family\, coworkers\, dogs\, and strollers…All are welcome! \nNew on the route 2024: In 2024\, we were able to walk by Main Street Family Housing\, a multi-family apartment building that will provide 16 units of permanent\, deeply affordable housing for families experiencing homelessness. \nNew on the route 2025: This year\, you will be able to walk past our new warming shelter on Pearl Street!

DESCRIPTION:When: Aug 3\, 2024\, 12 to 3 PM \nWhere: 95 North Avenue\, Burlington\, VT \nWe are excited to host our 3rd  Annual Back to School Bonanza. The Back to School Bonanza will be held on August 3rd\, 2024 at COTS- 95 North Avenue in Burlington\, from 12pm-3pm; the rain date is the following Saturday. \nThe Back to School Bonanza is a free community event where any Vermont students\, grades K-12\, who are in need can come de-stress and have fun while they pick out school supplies and more. This event allows students to pick out the supplies they want\, in the colors they like. The goal is to set them up for success and build confidence through things like haircuts and first day of school outfits. \nAll students present will receive free tickets to access fun stations. \nThis year’s Back to School Bonanza is going to be so much fun! Along the way\, walkers are invited to stop outside each of COTS’ numerous buildings. We’ll have interactive and up-close looks at our shelters\, housing\, and program spaces. Find the QR codes posted along the route to link to virtual tours of each stop and explore our 360 panoramas\, sound bites\, narrated videos\, photos\, clickable links\, and so much more. \nThe Walk takes about 1-2 hours to complete\, ending back at Battery Park where walkers are met with music and Ben & Jerry’s.

COTS is staying connected to our amazing supporters\, and we invite you to continue to connect with us through the 2020 Virtual COTS Walk. \nWhy go virtual?\nThe traditional COTS Walk brings thousands of supporters to Battery Park\, through the streets of Burlington\, and into homeless shelters and service locations where people sleep\, eat\, live\, and meet. This year\, we are happy to safely recommence that collective energy and communal support by holding the COTS Walk in a safe\, shared virtual space. \nFor the protection of COTS guests\, supporters\, volunteers\, and staff\, we will not gather in person this May. \nWe have so many exciting things to tell you this year\, sights to show you\, and experiences for you to partake it. Join us in this virtual journey. \nWhat is the Virtual COTS Walk?\nThe Virtual COTS Walk follows a 3.5-mile trek through downtown Burlington that replicates the path a person experiencing homelessness would travel to reach COTS shelters and services. We will take you into our program spaces to learn what its like and to see the places where your support is having a needed impact. \nWe will announce virtual walk activities soon—some interactive\, some educational\, and all of them fun things you can do from home and at responsible social distances. \nWhen you register for the walk\, you’ll get your own online profile page to help you reach out to friends\, families\, and colleagues and achieve your fundraising goal. \nThe 2020 COTS Walk Packet presents plentiful information about the path\, destinations\, and services. (We published it before going virtual\, so please excuse references to physical gatherings and—it breaks the heart to say—the Ben and Jerry’s ice cream that was planned for the end of the walk.)
