LCRCC Presents: Legislative Breakfast Recap

On the very cold morning of January 29th, LCRCC was joined by over 200 members and elected officials at Trader Dukes for breakfast and remarks from Governor Phil Scott. The Governor took the opportunity to present his proposal for an optional, bi-state paid family leave insurance program. The Governor worked with Governor Chris Sununu of New Hampshire to develop a plan with a big enough pool of employees that it could serve as an alternative to the mandatory, potentially expensive, paid family leave program presented in both states’ legislatures. The Governor stressed the importance of using a third-party administrator of such a benefit to utilize the experience of the private market and ensure Vermonter taxpayers are not liable for any potential insolvency or unfunded liability. If you want to learn more about the contending proposals, contact the LCRCC advocacy team at [email protected].

Our next Legislative Breakfast will feature former Speaker of the House, Shap Smith, and former House Minority Leader, Don Turner. We look forward to hearing their commentary, informed by years of experience at the head of state government, on the most recent news from Montpelier, bills moving towards the Governor’s desk, and how to best advocate for the issues that will affect you. Be sure to mark your calendar for the final breakfast in our series on March 18th at Ri Ra Irish Pub in Burlington.
